Saskia Garel

Actor, Singer, Songwriter, Author and Artist, Saskia Garel, was one half
of the Canadian pop duo Love & Sas back in the 90’s. After winning 2
Junos (Canadian Grammy), making music videos and touring, she decided to
rock the Broadway stage as Mimi in Rent and Nala in Disney’s The Lion
King. Saskia also has penned and illustrated a children’s book series
entitled The Adventures of Datty Mac. The series features flip style
books written in English but once they are flipped over, you can read the
same book in Jamaican patois with a glossary in the middle. They are
illustrated by Saskia herself in vivid colors reminiscent of gorgeous
Jamaican landscapes. In fact she was awarded the Helen Sissons Canadian
Children’s Story Award in 2010 for the second book in the series
entitled “Sick Goatâ€. You can also catch Saskia in reruns of the
sitcom One on One and other TV shows including She Spies, Nightman,
Tracker, Platinum and Wildcard to name a few as well as loads of
commercials over the past 10 years!!! Now as a mom of two, Saskia wants
to instill in her kids, a love for music as well as finding clever ways to
make their life easier. This inspired her current album All in a Day’s
Play, a fun and quirky CD which takes listeners through a day in the life
of a young child struggling with lisping, waking and bedtime battles,
potty training, thumb sucking, brushing teeth etc., These are all set to
incredible melodies and lyrics in a variety of musical genres including
reggae, bossanova, big band, tango, 80’s rock, lush lullabies and more.
Interspersed with little ditties to help the kids learn the basics, the
music is so good even parents will enjoy again and again and again. You
won’t mind if you get them stuck in your head.
