We wanted to create this page to inform you with what Sunset is doing during the current Covid-19 crisis.
It’s hard to believe that the last day our doors were open to the public was March 13, 2020. We knew things were changing and changing fast and we were already doing virtual classes on March 16. We continued with our Spring classes, we worked with the schools that we partner with to finish classes, we even had multiple Zoom performances, including with our award winning Comprehensive Performance Company.
With theatre’s continuing to stay closed we went virtual for all of summer too! Offering 9 weeks of musical theatre camps featuring drop in visits from Broadway performers each session. We also continued our Creative Clubhouse throughout summer for our preschool aged students.
Throughout all of this we have constantly worked to change, adjust, and create new curriculum for our students. We want them to continue to learn, grow, have fun, stay engaged, and continue their love for the art of theatre.
In addition, since March we have been offering free weekly classes and entertainment on our Facebook page and all live! We’ve had weekly tap and jazz dane classes with Miss Lindsey, toddler music with Mr. B, fairytale time with Mr Steve, and live improv comedy on Friday nights with The Omelettes. These are just some of the ways we’ve been trying to give to students and communities that were missing theatre!
This Fall we will continue to stay closed until theaters begin to get the green light. We have a brand new Fall schedule with classes specifically designed for the virtual experience. Not to mention, our classes are the lowest prices they have ever been! The opportunity to meet people from outside your community from across the country has made for some wonderful experiences for our students. Our virtual options have received many high accolades from parents, students, and guests. We’re proud of what we’ve been doing and we’re thankful for so many students signing up repeatedly!
We are very different from most theatre companies who tend to use the word “unprecedented” frequently. Many of these companies use it to stress the need for you to contribute financially to their cause.
We, too, have reached that predicament. All our Fall performance based classes are on hiatus, which means our ability to perform live for the community and showcase what we can do is currently gone. We hope that by 2021 we’ll be able to resume these classes.
We are asking you, our fans, our families, our students, our friends and fellow supporters of the arts to think about helping Sunset. We have partnered with Fractured Atlas to set up a Fiscal Sponsorship and if you have it in your heart to donate to Sunset, please follow the link.
Thank you for your thoughts and love and continued support and we long for the day to see you all face to face soon!
Steve and Lindsey Neumann
